People, family and faces

People/ Jobs
People and jobs are represented by a person plus a relevant illustrative qualifier. There was much discussion on the order of these items. For example 'milkman' might, in the English language' have milk first, man second. However, with 'painter' the order is less linguistically significant. The Speech and Language Therapists in the group felt strongly that the person should be first, as the most important element, which is then qualified. After much consultation it was agreed to standardise on this approach (See also the section on plurals).

Non 'stick' people
Although the standard person is represented by a stick person - being genderless and non-cultural, there are times when a fuller figure is needed. This may be to allow emphasis, as in adult or child, or in certain actions, such as cuddle - which does not work with stick images.

Family
The circle continues to be used to indicate 'my'. Sister and brother are used with grey to draw attention to the target element, with a gender-less sibling in the circle. Family members from the wider family are represented by a circle with people in to indicate a man/woman/boy/girl related to the family. Step relations are indicated by a dashed circle.

Family

Faces
A more consistent approach has been taken to faces, especially when representing feelings.
